COMPOSTING: AN ECO-FRIENDLY SOLUTION FOR ORGANIC WASTE MANAGEMENT TO MITIGATE THE EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE

نویسندگان

چکیده

Composting is the process of converting organic waste into a nutrient-rich soil amendment. It an eco-friendly and sustainable way to manage it can have number benefits for environment. help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve quality, conserve water. also amount that goes landfills, which protect human health The inputs composting include food scraps, yard waste, other materials. These materials are broken down by microorganisms in called decomposition. There lot decomposition technologies as not limited to, aerobic requires oxygen, so important turn compost pile regularly ensure there enough oxygen present. processes used vary depending on scale operation. However, all methods involve following steps: Collection followed preparation (e.g., shredding chopping), then mixing with soil, sand, micro-organisms), turning pile, then, monitoring moisture content, temperature), finally, harvest compost. outputs amendment Compost be increase crop yields, need chemical fertilizers. create more landscape reducing imported topsoil. This review will discuss how mitigate effects climate change. provide information start different types systems factors affecting compositing available.

An integrated approach of composting methodologies for solid waste management

Organic fraction of solid waste, which upon degradation produces foul smell and generates pathogens, if not properly managed. Composting is not a method of waste disposal but it is a method of waste recycling and used for agricultural purposes. An integrated approach of composting methodology was tested for municipal solid waste management. Solid waste first was composted and after 22 days, was...

Setting priorities for land management to mitigate climate change

BACKGROUND No consensus has been reached how to measure the effectiveness of climate change mitigation in the land-use sector and how to prioritize land use accordingly. We used the long-term cumulative and average sectorial C stocks in biomass, soil and products, C stock changes, the substitution of fossil energy and of energy-intensive products, and net present value (NPV) as evaluation crite...

Composting barrel for sustainable organic waste management in Bangladesh.

To ensure quick and uniform aerobic stabilization of biowaste through domestic composting and to prevent malodorous emissions, two modifications were made to a conventional steel barrel composter by: (1) providing 0.0125 m diameter openings throughout the sides and (2) placing a 0.0254 m diameter perforated polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe in the middle portion of the barrel. The volume of compost...

Evaluation of an Organic Waste Composting Device to Household Treatment

The performance of a plug-flow automated aerobic digester used with the compost of the Biodegradable Organic Waste (BOW) from a typical family at its generation rhythm was evaluated. During a 13 month assessment, 179.7 kg of BOW were treated and 106.7 kg of compost were obtained with a C:N ratio of 12 and an average concentration of N of about 2.72%. Additional tests enabled to assess the gener...

Management to mitigate and adapt to climate change

Management decisions both at the field and off-site have the potential to contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation. Climate change threatens to increase the potential for soil erosion, reduce soil quality, lower agricultural productivity and negatively impact food security and global sustainability, making it one of the most severe challenges we will face in the 21st century. This...
